I LOVE this coat. The combination of down and Omni-Heat provides a lot of warmth without being bulky. I often walk to and from work (1/2 mile) in -15 degree temperatures, and I have a t-shirt and light jacket, this coat, gloves, and the hood pulled tight around my head and my upper body and head stay warm.I love that the fur on the hood is removable because I'm just not a fur person. The coat is easy to slide on and off which is a big deal to me because winter and I are not friends (especially since temperatures have reached -20 or colder for more than 3 weeks and most days barely get above zero!) and I hate to feel "stuck" in a coat because it takes so long to put on or take off.I love the "thumb holsters" as I call them, although it's true that I can't fully extend my arms while wearing them because I feel like I might rip them. It's not a major concern for me because the sleeves are plenty long, and the coat is so warm that I wouldn't wear it unless I also need gloves (which is the way it is around here 4-5 months a year) and the sleeves still stay tucked into the gloves without them. I still wear the thumb holsters often when I don't need to move my arms a lot.I love the way the hardware (zippers, snaps) are all hidden. This is a well-engineered coat. I doubt I will ever remove the hood because I like hoods, but it is nice to have the option and the coat looks great either way.I am a recovering penny pincher and this is the first coat I have ever spent more than $40 on in my life and it is worth every penny.I was brave and went for the bright color and it is growing on me. I am usually a play-it-safe neutral person, but this is a beautiful color.
